Renewable Energy Solutions
for the Far North
Arctic Sun is your one-stop partner for everything related to renewable energy systems in the Far North. Our new retail store and office are now open regular business hours, and the full service web-store will be open for business the end of summer 2012.
We offer design service, products and installation for residential and commercial renewable energy systems. From solar PV and solar thermal to wind turbines and geothermal heat pumps, we are able to serve all your alternative energy needs. In addition, we carry a selection of high efficiency building products and passive house components. These include top performing boilers with solar thermal integration capabilities, and efficient passive house certified heat recovery ventilators from Europe with ground based preheating loops for pre-warming incoming ventilation air.
Currently, we are developing our product line of highly efficient ARCTIC entry doors with an R-value of up to R-60 and multiple lock points for airtight seals. Additionally, we are developing exterior thermal shutter systems that will provide a viable solution to the huge energy deficit created by windows during long cold winter nights. Until glazing technology catches up with the extreme requirements in our arctic regions, thermal shutters offer an attainable solution needed to build truly efficient buildings.
Arctic Sun is looking forward to powering and sustaining Alaska’s future.
All the Best,
The Arctic Sun Team
Free Zehnder AIA Credit Course
Heat Recovery Ventilation: Why Efficiency Matters
Zehnder has begun offering an American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI/USGBC) Continuing Education course online. It’s a great way to familiarize yourself with heat recovery ventilation and Zehnder’s state-of-the-art technology. Anyone can take the free online course, and it qualifies for one hour of continuing education credit. The course is available at AEC Daily's Website.
Our customers have told us that renewable energy is the solution they know they need, but it's the initial investment that can be a hurdle for so many energy-conscious Northerners. You may be pleased to know that Arctic Sun now makes renewable energy more affordable! Interested in learning more? Visit our new Financing page.
Subarctic Passive House Case Study:
A Superinsulated Foundation and Vapor Diffusion-Open Walls
This is an independent study of the passive solar home built by REINA’s Owner/Builder Thorsten Chlupp conducted by the Cold Climate Housing Research Center. Thorsten’s home demonstrates that buildings in subarctic climates can perform well without traditional heating systems, and it presents an innovative alternative for high-efficiency construction. The IABA Homeshow 2014 - March 28, 29 & 30, The Carlson Center, Fairbanks AK
March 29, 12:30-1:15 PM, join Nathan Stumpff, project manager at Arctic Sun for his presentation: "The Economics of Renewable Energy in Alaska." We will discuss some of the basic topics that will help you decide if renewable energy can be an affordable, reliable part of your personal or business energy mix.
Net Zero Energy homes produce as much energy as they use. Join Fairbanks builder Thorsten Chlupp for this workshop looking at Net Zero Energy building in Alaska. Thorsten will discuss his experiences building and living in NZE in Alaska. This workshop will cover practical lessons that explore limitations and solutions for Passive House and Zero Energy buildings in heating-dominated climates of Alaska. We will investigate how to overcome the hurdles of building high-efficiency structures in a cold climate, including lessons learned from building solar heated homes at Latitude 64.
